Hi All,

Join us for our second meetup this year on 15 May!

We're excited to bring together enthusiasts of functional programming languages, this time with a focus on Elixir, Erlang and Scala.

Whether you're a seasoned pro or just curious about functional programming, this meetup is for you!

We'll be gathering at Hevre (Kazimierz), so come and prepare for an evening filled with inspiring talks, networking opportunities, and drinks & snacks provided by Erlang Solutions!

Please note that space is limited, so RSVP to confirm your attendance. Registering is crucial to help us anticipate the number of attendees and plan accordingly.

Agenda:

Talk I

Nelson Vides - Senior Developer @ Erlang Solutions

Topic: Automata Unveiled: A Theoretical Exploration of State Machines

Abstract: Embark on a journey into the realm of state machines, illuminated by Erlang’s gen_statem behavior. Discover how state machines can be utilized to address technical debt and explore the intersection of practical implementation and theoretical foundations. Real-world examples will demonstrate the mathematical elegance of state machines and their more advanced counterparts. By bridging theory and practice, developers will learn to architect solutions beyond conventional patterns, supported by concrete examples and ample code demonstrations.

Talk II

Veronika Yastrebova - Scala Backend Team Leader @ Appodeal Stack

Topic: Define your own rules: dynamic system behavior control at runtime

Abstract: We live in a constantly changing world, and the systems we develop must quickly adapt to these changes. Typically, managers bring requirements to developers on how the system should react based on certain conditions. This often leads to struggling through endless discussions, tickets, writing more code, making releases, etc. But what if our managers could control system behavior without involving developers every time they want to enable a new feature for a specific client, application, or user segment?

Talk III

Paweł Długosz - Developer @ Erlang Solutions

Topic: Nx not only for ML

Abstract: I'll be sharing an example of how a conventional algorithm can be redesigned on the top of tensor algebra. Such approach allows us to leverage Nx library with a GPU backend to parallelise big computations.

So come on out and join us! We can't wait to see you there!
